Texas Hold'em: players receive two downcards as their personal hand (holecards), after which there is a round of betting. Three boardcards are turned simultaneously (called the 'flop') and another round of betting occurs. The next two boardcards are turned one at a time, with a round of betting after each card. The boardcards are community cards, and a player may use any five-card combination from among the board and personal cards. A player may even use all of the boardcards and no personal cards to form a hand (play the board). A dealer button is used. The usual structure is to use two blinds, but it is possible to play the game with one blind, multiple blinds, an ante, or combination of blinds plus an ante.
The best possible five card poker hand, using any combination of hole cards and community cards, wins the pot.
Omaha Poker: Omaha is similar to Hold'em in using a three-card flop on the board, a fourth boardcard, and then a fifth boardcard. Each player is dealt four holecards (instead of two) at the start. In order to make a hand, a player must use precisely two holecards with three boardcards. The betting is the same as in hold'em. At the showdown, the entire four-card hand should be shown to receive the pot.
The best possible five card poker hand, using exactly two hole cards and three community cards, wins the pot.
Omaha Hi/Lo: the pot is split between the highest hand and the best low hand, if there is a valid low hand. In order to be counted as a low hand, no card in the combined five-card hand can be higher than 8 or consist of a pair. Aces can be used for both high and low hands. When comparing the low hands, the hand wins that has the lowest high card. This means that 7,5,4,2,A will beat 8,4,3,2,A. If both players have the same high card, the second highest are compared, etc. It is possible for one player to win both the high and the low hand. The low hand can be a flush or a straight. Therefore, the best low hand is 5,4,3,2,A. If there is no valid low hand, the high hand wins the entire pot.
7 Card Stud : Seven-card stud is played with two downcards and one upcard dealt before the first betting round, followed by three more upcards (with a betting round after each card). After the last downcard is dealt, there is a final round of betting. The best five-card poker hand wins the pot. In all fixed-limit games, the smaller bet is wagered on the first two betting rounds, and the larger bet is wagered after the betting rounds on the fifth, sixth, and seventh cards. If there is an open pair on the fourth card, any player has the option of making the smaller or larger bet. Deliberately changing the order of your upcards in a stud game is improper because it unfairly misleads the other players.
The best five card poker hand, out of seven cards, wins the pot.
Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo : In 7-Card Stud Hi/Lo the pot is split between the highest hand and the best low hand, if there is a valid low hand. Check
If no player has placed a bet or if the player is on an un-raised big blind, the player has the alternative to check. That means declining to bet, but retaining the option to remain in the hand if someone else bets, or even to call or raise if someone else bets. A player can not “check” if someone else has placed a bet. If another player bets after a check, the checking player is forced to either call, raise or fold.
Fold
A player always has the option to fold. When a player folds his hand he is no longer in the game until the next hand.
Call
A player has the option to call when another player has placed a bet. When the player calls, he puts in the same amount as the bet in the pot and the betting round is ended unless another player raises.
Bet
If no one else has placed a bet, the player can bet himself. A bet will force the other players to either call, raise or fold. The amount of the bet depends on the betting structure.
Raise
The player has the option to raise another player's bet. The player then raises to an amount higher than the bet, which forces the other players to either call, re-raise or fold.
